A graduate of the African Free School and Princeton Theological Seminary, Rev. Wright was the first black graduate of an American divinity school and the pastor of the African Presbyterian Church, also called the Shiloh Church. A vocal opponent of the American Colonization Society, Rev. Wright was a member of the New York Committee of Vigilance and was one of the founders of the racially integrated American and Foreign Anti-Slavery Society in New York.
