"Buying Government Bonds," in Mottelay, The Soldier in Our Civil War (New York, 1890).

The New-York Historical Society gratefully accepts contributions that are fully tax-deductible to support the daily operations of the institution. For more than 200 years, the New-York Historical Society has collected, preserved and interpreted a wide array of objects such as paintings, sculpture, decorative arts, photographs, newspapers and books that document the history of New York and American life. Your tax-deductible contribution would support the efforts of the Historical Society.

Gifts of appreciated securities offer advantages for donors. By contributing appreciated stock, held for more than one year, you receive two tax benefits. First, you avoid paying the capital gains tax on the appreciation. Second, you qualify for an income tax charitable deduction based on the value of your securities on the date you make the gift.

Many companies will match charitable gifts from current and retired employees. You are encouraged to use your matching gift program, since it increases the size of your gift and provides additional benefit for the New-York Historical Society. If you and/or your spouse work for a matching gift company, please obtain the appropriate gift form from your personnel office and return it along with your gift to the N-YHS.

Add to the collections
The Society is dedicated to increasing both the library and museum collections with material that complements and enhances what is already held. In consultation with a special committee, the curatorial staff enjoys discovering and examining the material record of New York's past and urges you to contact them regarding potential additions. Tax deductions are often possible from such donations.

To discuss donations to the museum collection, please contact Roy Eddey at reddey@nyhistory.org or (212) 485-9232. Donations to the library can be discussed with the Vice President and Library Director Jean Ashton at jashton@nyhistory.org or (212) 485-9260.
